This class is suitable for those with some basic experience. (The class will not be suitable for complete beginners - we plan to run the beginners classes again next year - please let us know if you are interested.)

This online class is a follow on from skills learnt in Introduction to Twining – Parts One, Two and Three. In Part Four the focus will be on slits, edges, and points. It will offer ideas for developing simple pod forms into more sculptural pieces such as leaves and pods with petals.

The first class (4A) will be looking again at making a turn on a flat piece of twining with techniques to make the edging decorative, adding finesse to the weaving. Ways to counteract the natural twist that occurs in a flat twined piece will be taught and sampled. This class will end with a demonstration for setting up a five petalled pod. Mary will supply a recipe for the set-up, in preparation for forming petals in the following class.

The second class (4B) will include making a small leaf to practice two different ways to bring a flat piece into a point. We will be considering ‘how’ the warps are reduced. Mary will show these two techniques, before students are invited to join in. To finish, Mary will demonstrate on a pre-made pod how to bring each of five petals to a point. You will be able to work on the petals of your own pre-prepped pod during the class.

As an add on to Introduction to Twining, at the end of Part Four you will have learned new skills which can be applied to your own unique pod forms!
