This course forms part of our STUDY programme; a range of longer courses, running over a number of weeks, exploring our most popular subjects in greater depth. Combining tutor-led live classes with elements of self-study, these courses are designed to stretch and challenge you, whilst maintaining the small & friendly learning environment we are known for.
Join lettering artist Carry Wouters as we journey through the timeline to discover the history and background of the Carolingian script. This eight-part course is suitable for both beginners and improvers.
Clear legibility and spacing underline the Carolingian hand, making it a beautiful manageable script for calligraphers to learn. The lessons will focus largely on the writing of letters and the specific elements of successful text placement.
We will look at examples from historical tradition and combining minuscules with capital letters. A number of small creative assignments provide us with the opportunity to practice applying the letter in both the traditional and more contemporary writing environment.
An absolute beginner in calligraphy will cherish this legible calligraphic hand for many years to come. The more advanced scribe renews and enriches their basic knowledge. All will learn to appreciate Carolingian in the development of Western Scripts, which in turn heralded the start of typographic letters.
