This class is suitable for students of all abilities
This interesting and different new course with Pat is all about simplicity, space, and feeling. It will give you the grounding you need for all your sketching. It will bring energies, breath and balance to your work. It will point you in the direction of selected pattern and detail. It will open your eyes to the power and marriage of simplicity, space and darks. It will excite when you zoom into collected pattern and details.
The class is about lines-with-feeling, lines-with-variety, lines-with-sweetness, and lines-with-power. It’s about choices, too... What to leave out? What to put in? Where to leave an empty space? Which details matter? How and where to punctuate with darks for strength?
Week 1: WHAT DOES WHAT?- Experimentation with different varied-line ink tools
- Exploring not just black ink but other colours and pairs of colours used together
- Highlighting issues to consider when beginning a drawing within a space
- Making an A3 sized collection of line & contrast ink drawings from reference photographs
Week 2: THINKING BIGGER/DRAWING BIGGER- Focusing on looking
- Extracting what’s important
- Positioning drawings on a page to create balance, strength, harmony and presence
- Outlining and adding darks for power
- Selective pattern-work, grouping details
Pat will give you confidence, not just in all of this, but in the use of a wide range of varied-line pens and inks too. It’ll be fun!
