Illumination is wonderful: it gives a sparkle to everything and it is easy to achieve good results with a little patience!
We'll start this two-part workshop by introducing you to gilding tools and materials with a short, practical discussion. We will explore the characteristics of glues and gums, and the types of leaf gold, gold powders and other metals.
After this, you will be encouraged to work-along with Jan using a pre-supplied design template (although you can use your own design if you wish!) Throughout the two weeks, there will be demonstrations and explanations of designing and gilding for you to learn from. We will work on two separate designs during the course - a geometric pattern and an illuminated letter.
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions during this joyful and bright course, and students will be encouraged to experiment between classes to create designs of their own to paint and illuminate.
