The gel plate is a fantastic base for making one off prints. Originally made from gelatine (hence the name) they offer a firm but squishy surface that releases acrylic paints beautifully to make very striking prints. There are many different ways of making designs for printing and the process is very fast (and very addictive!)  In this workshop we will explore more gel plate printing techniques, focusing on the theme of textiles.

After a quick introduction to the basics, tools, and materials, we will explore ways of using textiles, such as netting, lace, threads and old garments to make monoprints onto paper.

In the second part of the workshop there will be a more detailed look at suitable paints to use with fabric. Then we will make sone prints onto fabric using a variety of mark making techniques and using both acrylic paints and fabric printing paints / inks.

There will also be plenty of suggestions of how to use the printed fabrics in your own textile projects.  A detailed handout will be provided before the workshop.
