This experience is aimed at complete beginners.
During this session, Samantha will introduce students to the different Schools of Indian Painting. Using slides and photos, we will take a look at the great Mughal tradition through to The Pahari, Kotah, Mewar, and others.
After looking at historic examples, Samantha will take a brief exploration into some of the techniques involved in creating these beautiful paintings. She will talk through the basics of paper preparation (staining and burnishing), to colour mixing , flooding and shading.
This session is not an instructional class, instead it is designed to provide a brief but informative delve into these ancient techniques. You will not be expected to work along with any elements (in fact, you don't even need to purchase any materials if you don't want to), but there will be lots of history, ideas, and techniques for you to absorb.
Future classes with Samantha are being planned in which students can learn how to master the techniques themselves.
